Vacation recovery

Not too much going on for the beginning of this week. I guess you could say I'm recovering from vacation.

Did the usual Monday routine of cleaning the house (but not as much as I wanted to) & food shopping yesterday. I did completely clean the inside of the fridge though.

I planned out all our meals for the week, made my list and tried to keep under $100. I came in at $114. Close. I've been trying to keep the grocery bill budget as close to $100 as I can. I haven't gotten it down to $100 yet but almost.

Today we played out in the yard and headed to the park. Nothing too exciting. Just outside enjoying the day. I was going to try & go for a bike ride since the weather was so nice but opted for the park instead to let Ava run around. I'm feeling a little guilty about it actually. I had planned to try and be more active today since WI is tomorrow and I'm not feeling too confident. I'm thinking my vacation food is going to catch up to me this week. We shall see.

Portsmouth

Portsmouth yesterday was great. The weather was perfect and we did a ton of walking around. We found this yummy little sandwich shop for lunch called Googies. I got a turkey wrap and was so so good! We'll definitely be heading back there to eat the next time we're in the area.

Then we headed over to Prescott Park which is one of my favorite parks in the area. It's right on the ocean and there's a gorgeous garden with lots of beautiful flowers everywhere. We brought a ball & kicked it around, played in the grass and relaxed by the ocean. So nice. From there we went over to Peirce Island and went to the playground, did a bit more walking around then headed back home. Perfect day in my book.

Britney Spears concert

My WONDERFUL husband surprised me with Britney Spears tickets for Saturday night. I took one of my BFF's and the concert was AMAZING! I had a bit more than I would have liked to drink so I'm gonna have to make up for it the rest of the week.

We're heading over to one of my favorite towns today; Portsmouth. It was Adam's idea, so glad he thought of it. Perfect day for it! It's gorgeous out! I can't wait.

And yes I like Britney. Don't judge me.

Mt. Washington

WOW WOW WOW! I don't even know what to say. Mt. Washington was everything we thought it would be and more. It was incredible!

The photos do not even come close to doing it justice!

The drive up there was a little nerve racking. The road does NOT seem big enough for 2 cars to pass each other at the same time but apparently it is. It's definitely a tight squeeze though. There were a few points where Adam & I were laughing uncontrollably b/c we were so nervous we were going to fall off the edge. It was hilarious and petrifying at the same time. But definitely cool.
The drive was a little over 7 miles and took about 45 mins with a few stops to enjoy the scenery along the way. They give you a CD to listen to while driving up that has a bunch of cool facts and tips for driving (like speed limit of 20 mph, drive in 1st gear both ways and pump your brakes while driving down).

The top of the mountain was FREEZING and so so windy. Since we didn't plan for the trip up the mountain & with the fact that it's been hot & sunny everyday, we were WAY under dressed. Adam had shorts & a t-shirt. I had a t-shirt and capris and Ava was in shorts and a tank top. Thankfully we bought her a really cute Mt Washington sweatshirt before we headed up, but it still wasn't enough.

We went up the the observatory, froze, walked around the cafe & gift shop, headed back outside to enjoy more of the view, froze, took some family pics, froze, walked around some more, froze & then enjoyed a bit more of the view from the warmth of our car before we headed back down. We even got the infamous bumper sticker!

It was truly an experience we'll never forget.

Storyland

We did Storyland from 3-6 last night & then all day today. For those who have never been, they have a special where if you go after 3 you get in the next day free. So we took advantage of that. And honestly I'm glad we did b/c the park is a pretty good size and with the lines and whatnot, it's tough to do everything in one day.

Ava had a blast. We went on a ton of rides and she loved each & everyone of them. But the highlight of her day (or I should say LIFE) was meeting Cinderella. If you know Ava, you know she is obsessed with the Disney princesses. I have the cutest video that Adam shot of her running towards her and giving her a great big hug. I teared up. You could see how genuinely excited she was to see her. Makes me melt just thinking about it. We've also got a video of Ava up on stage during one of the shows they put on there. They had a knock of mermaid & prince that Ava thought were Ariel & Aladdin. So cute!

It was an awesome two days. We're back at our room and there is no sleep in sight for the little one. She must still be too wound up from today's events. I'm exhausted. We definitely got a bunch of walking in & the packed lunches at the park worked out great.

And as for dinner while we were up there, the 1st night we did D'Angelos where I got a chicken caesar wrap. We tried to head to a few of the local restaurants after storyland closed at 6:00 but apparently everyone else had the same idea & there were hour waits everywhere.

The next night we did The Red Fox Restaurant and that was delish! This was our cheat night. We were on vacation, we did a ton of walking and made healthy food choices at every other meal while we were away. We wanted to treat ourselves. It can be difficult to stick to your weight loss program if you feel deprived and we felt like we earned it.
So, Adam got steak and I tried to be semi good with scallops but they came with this incredible maple cream sauce that was to die for. Both came with rice & Adam's included a veggie. That was our big treat & it was so worth it!

Breakfast was also a treat but not in a bad way. We went to this small local place called Peaches that all the locals raved about. I can see why. It was great! We both got egg beater omelets with wheat toast. They were so yummy! Mine had peppers and Adam's had peppers, mushrooms & I think onion. Mmm. Ava got one banana pancake which was fluffy and super tasty (I tried a bite, I know).

So, all in all, the trip so far has been amazing!

We decided that tomorrow we're going to drive up Mt. Washington. We're so excited since neither of us have ever done it before & I hear it is breath taking! Can't wait.

Off to the white mountains

Today we're heading up to the white mountains for a few days for a mini vay-cay. I am SO excited.

The plan is to do Storyland tonight & tomorrow all day and then Thursday we're going to play it by ear. I've packed a bunch of food to bring for lunch & snacks while we're at the park. I figure it'll save us calories AND money. Can't go wrong there.

So that leaves us with only breakfast & dinner to worry about. And since we're all light breakfast eaters, it shouldn't be an issue going out to eat and staying on track.

The bike trailer/jogger is here!

I got my new bike trailer today! So excited when it arrived. What's better than getting packages in the mail right?! Of course, it arrived about 10 mins before I walked out the door so I didn't have a chance to use it today. But I put it together after dinner & so far I love it. It has a bunch of great little features and feels comfy to push as a jogger. A completely loves it & has been using it as a little tent on wheels in the living room. Hopefully she likes it just as much attached to a bike and being strapped in it.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some good weather next week b/c wouldn't you know, the forecast is showing rain Friday, Saturday & Sunday. I'm super anxious to use it though! I'll be sure to give a small review once I do!

Parks & ponds

We stayed active this weekend and had some fun family time too! Saturday we went to Twin Bridges Park in Merrimack. This is one of our FAVORITE parks, especially when it's really hot b/c it has a bit of shade and the insides of all the wooden structures are nice & cool. Lots of running around there. But one of the best parts about it is that there's a great little walking trail in the woods behind it with a river, a few bridges & a little swimming hole at the end of it. Really fun little nature walk especially for the kids.
Today was spent at our pond. We have a great little swimming area with a beach. It's perfect. Brought a nice little lunch for the 3 of us & spent most of the day in the water. Super refreshing & good for a little water aerobics!
I'm feeling good about our activity this weekend. It's was nice to stay movin'.

Movie night, pizza & staying on track

Movie night was Saturday at my cousin's house. After 4 weeks on the plan, this was my 1st night out where I wasn't fully in control of my food choices. However, I did try & prepare beforehand. Since I knew I'd be snacking there, I had a small chicken caesar salad wrap for dinner at home, leaving room for me to have some munchies later on. I brought some pretzels sticks and super yummy hummus and tried to stick to eating that (which wasn't too difficult since I LOVE the particular hummus I brought). I did indulge in some kettle corn though. But my biggest obstacle was the 2 pizzas they ordered for everyone. I'm happy to say though that I didn't have any, and really, It wasn't as difficult to resist as I thought it would be. Pizza is definitely one of my top 3 favorite foods & I could seriously eat it everyday and not get sick of it, but in the back of my head I thought about my goals & what I was trying to achieve. And it just didn't seem worth it. I honestly didn't feel deprived at all and for me, that was a real light bulb moment for me.
